Bishnupur, May 10 2025:
Kumbi Kendra Progressive Farmer Association has urged authorities concerned to repair the roads connecting Kumbi Bazar to Wangoo, Nongmaikhong and Ithai, which are in deplorable condition, setting a deadline of May 16 for commencement of the repair works.
"If our demands are not met by the deadline, local club organisations, meira paibi groups, village level federation and public of Kumbi assembly constituency will launch an intense agitation, " KKPFA president S Dinesh told media persons during a joint inspection of the said roads conducted by KKPFA; Yaipha Thousil VLF, Wangoo Terakhong; Kumbi to Wangoo Light and Medium Motor Transport Association; Kumbi to Imphal Winger Association and All Kumbi E-rickshaw Association on Saturday.
S Dinesh said that the said roads have been neglected by the authorities for many years now, despite being a lifeline for the people of Kumbi AC.
He further noted that conditions of the roads will deteriorate further as the monsoon season approaches making commuting difficult for students, pregnant and those in medical emergencies.
Yaipha Thousil VLF secretary Th Haribati lamented that a repair of the Kumbi to Wangoo road, which is classified as a state highway, was undertaken not long ago but had already failed due to poor workmanship.
She warned that if repairs would not begin by May 16, they will escalate their protests, potentially including road blockades.
