Campaign launched in IE to combat child marriage

Imphal, May 09 2025:
Imphal East district administration launched the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat campaign on Friday at the conference hall of the DC Office complex, Porompat, aiming to end child marriage through increased public awareness and community engagement.
The campaign launch event was participated by key district-level stakeholders, including the Imphal East Child Marriage Prohibition Officer (CMPO), executive officers, Block Development Officers (BDOs), and Panchayat secretaries.
Retired District and Sessions judge Aribam Noutuneshwari and additional district magistrate, Imphal East RK Dayananda attended the event as resource persons.
Noutuneshwari elaborated on the legal provisions under the Protection of Child Marriage Act, 2006, while also highlighting the serious health and financial consequences associated with child marriage.
ADM RK Dayananda, in his address, spoke on the multiple impacts of early marriage, particularly among families without a stable income.
He pointed out that child marriage often leads to marital discord, domestic violence, and separation, and in some cases, pushes individuals toward immoral means of livelihood in the struggle to survive.
As part of the campaign activities, a wall poster was also launched to reinforce key messages related to the harmful effects of child marriage and the importance of timely intervention.
