Kakching, May 04 2025: The 119th birth anniversary of poet Ashangbam Minketan Singh, the pioneer of modern Manipuri literature, was observed at Tarou Meitei Leikai, Agartala, Tripura on May 2.The programme organised by Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum (MLGF), Tripura was attended by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi Manipuri Language Advisory Board member AC Netrajit as chief guest and MLCF senior member Laipubam Ranjan Sharma as president, while Forum advisor RK Tarunjit, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura vice president Seleibam Khelamohon and writer Mayengbam Aviram were guests of honour.

The observance commenced with paying of floral tributes to the photo of A Minketan and observing two-minute silence in his memory, followed by keynote speech by MLCF secretary Khoisnam Mangal and reading of a paper on life and work of Minaketan by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi Manipuri Language Advisory Board member Khoisnam Birol.

The event concluded with recitation of poems of the poet by Shija Malina, Seleibam Khelamohon, Hiram Sari ka, Khundrakpam Kanika, Kshetrimayum Pinaki and Hiram Babli.
