Trip to RFRI, wildlife sanctuary, KNP ends

A four-day exposure visit to Rain Forest Research Institute (RFRI) and Hollongapar Gibbon (HG) Wildlife Sanctuary in Jorhat and Kaziranga National Park (KNP), Assam organised by the Tamenglong Forest Division ended on May 31.The exposure trip was participated by the Educated Youths and Self Help Group members of both Tamenglong and Noney districts and two officials of Tamenglong Forest Division.
During the visit to RFRI, the team had technical sessions and interaction programme on bamboo with RFRI faculties led by head scientist Dr RK Kalita.
The team also visited bambusetum site, plant tissue culture lab, bamboo char-coal-making centre, etc.
The resource persons comprising senior technical officers Dr RD Borthakur and Dr Kumud Borah along with assistant chief technical officer Dr Bebija L Singha talked on bamboo for livelihood generation.
A hand on demonstration of bamboo propagation method was also done by the scientists.
The team also went on a jeep safari to KNP and studied how the forest is managed, wildlife is conserved and work done for development of eco-tourism, HG Wildlife Sanctuary, Jorhat and studied how eco-tourism has been taken up successfully that provides jobs to educated youths and generates incomes for livelihood.
The team led by Tamenglong Forest Division forester Mark Kamei also toured the Assam State Zoo Cum Botanical Garden in Guwahati.
