NSP celebrates Nepali Language Day

Imphal, August 20 2025: Nepali Sahitya Parishad (NSP), Manipur, celebrated the 34th Nepali Language Day at the Kanglatongbi community hall on Wednesday with DM University professor Dr Doli Limbu as chief guest, and Dr Tankanath Khatriwada and Kanglatongbi Gram Panchayat Administrative Committee chairperson Meena Bista, as special guests.

Parishad president Sita Devi Chettri chaired the programme.

As a part of the celebration students who excelled in Nepali and Sanskrit in the class 10 and 12 board examinations were felicitated and awards presented to top achievers including Sharada Karki, Sneha Devi Khatriwada, Sujal Baniya, Sahil Basnet and Aditya Dulal.

They received various memorial awards such as the Bishnu Prasad-Laxmi Devi Adhikari Award, Dilliram Acharya Award, and Devi Prasad Baskota-Kamala Devi Baskota Award, among others.

The 5th Asha Rani Rai Memorial Award, recognising contributions in drama, was conferred on Purna Kumar Sharma of Assam.

On the occasion, the Parishad extended congratulations to the Manipuri and Konkani communities, who are also celebrating their Language Day.

It further expressed gratitude to supporters and organisations working for the promotion of languages and culture.

The event drew participation from leading organisations including the Manipur Gorkha Reform Association, All Manipur Gorkha Students' Organisation, Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, and the Nepali Culture Protection Council, alongside community committees and language advocates.

Notable figures present included Bhawani Adhikari, Khem Sharma, Padam Acharya, Shantanu Kumar Limbu, and several others.

The audience was enthralled by a musical performance from Shantanu Kumar Limbu, while literary readings were delivered by Sahitya Akademi awardee Suraj Chapagain and other writers.

The programme was hosted by Homnath Chapagain, with Pushpa Sharma Acharya delivering the welcome address and Sunil Limbu giving the vote of thanks.
