Kakching, July 20 2025:
In a major crackdown on illegal earth excavation, three vehicles transporting hill earth without proper authorization were seized by officials of the Forest Department at the Kakching Range Office gate.
The three vehicles (407 Tata trucks) bearing registration number MN 01AA-4929, MN01AA-4931 and one without a registration number were intercepted while trespassing near the Range Office premises.
According to Forest Department officials, as part of its continuous drive to curb environmental violations, under the supervision of Thoubal Forest Division DFO L Jeeceelee, a team led by Range Officer of Kakching Forest Range and Pallel Beat Officer, Nameirakpam Bikramjit intercepted the vehicles as they passed the road in front of the Kakching Range Office.
Upon questioning, the drivers admitted that the hill earth had been excavated from the Khoibu-Khangshim area.
Commenting on the incident, a forest official expressed concern, stating that, "It is very unfortunate that illegal earth excavation continues despite restrictions imposed by the Manipur High Court.
If anyone is found violating the Court's order in future, the Forest Department will be compelled to seize the vehicles and initiate legal action as per the law" .
