Imphal, November 18 2024:
In what demonstrated a collective stand against violence, All Keirao Makting Club Coordinating Committee (AKMCCC), a conglomeration of clubs of Keirao Makting, on Monday carried out a torch rally, condemning the brutal killings of six innocent persons including children in Jiribam district.
The rally started at 7 pm from Keirao Makting Litan Makhong and ended near the Irilbung police station.
During the demonstration, the participants held banners and chanted slogans denouncing the act of killing innocent women and children and demanding justice for the victims.
AKMCCC further derided the central and state governments for their failures to restore peace and normalcy even after 18 months since the conflict started and slammed the re-imposition of AFSPA, 1958 in parts of the state.
Demanding that the culprits involved in the Jiri killings should be arrested and punished at the earliest and that AFSPA should be revoked from the state, the Committee cautioned that if the government fails to take prompt actions on the demands, they will launch intense agitations with support of the public.
AKMCCC also vowed its support to CSOs, clubs and meira paibi groups in all democratic protests launched by them.
Among others, the rally was supported and participated by members of BSU, KMYC, SEYC, YGC, KYDA and LYC.
