State native steers MBMC to win top honours

IAS officer Aribam Radhabinod Sharma, a native of Wangjing in Thoubal district, has guided the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) in Maharashtra to national recognition by securing the top rank in the 3 to 10 lakh population category under Swachh Survekshan 2024 .
The MBMC was conferred the President's Award during a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, officially recognising Mira-Bhayandar as the cleanest city in its category across the country.
The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu.
Senior dignitaries including Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) secretary Srinivas Katikithala and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar were present on the occasion, among others.
Commissioner and administrator Radhabinod Sharma, received the award on behalf of MBMC, joined by deputy commissioner Dr Sachin Bangar, city engineer Deepak Khambit and sanitation workers Ashok Bhoir and Vikas Machhi, symbolising the contributions of the entire municipal team and frontline workers.
Receiving the honour, Radhabinod Sharma said, "This President's Award is not just an honour for MBMC but a matter of pride for every citizen of Mira-Bhayandar.
It reflects the collective efforts of sanitation workers, municipal staff, and residents alike.
With this recognition, we are motivated to keep Mira-Bhayandar clean, green, and globally admired" .
MBMC also reiterated its commitment to sustainable urban development, aligning with the national vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, and aims to make Mira-Bhayandar a model city at both national and international levels.
The Swachh Survekshan Awards, under the Swachh Bharat Mission, ranks cities based on parameters such as cleanliness, solid waste management, citizen feedback and sustainable sanitation practices.
Mira-Bhayandar's rise to the top spot under the guidance of a Manipuri IAS officer underscores the growing footprint of Manipur's administrative talent in national development.
