Students sensitised on Sangai deer

Imphal, May 10 2025:
Sangai First Foundation organised a one-day school students' sensitisation programme on Sangai Day at Phoubakchao High School, Phoubakchao at the school hall on Saturday.
A release issued by Sangai First Foundation informed that the programme was attended by Chief Conservator of Forests, Wildlife L Joykumar, Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroisemba director L Biramangol, Sangai First Foundation managing trustee Dr Kh Sha-mungou, trustee K Jugeshwor and Phoubakchao High School head master and state teacher awardee Md Samad.
In his keynote address, L Joy-kumar emphasised the critical importance of environmental conservation and the need to safeguard Sangai deer and Hog Deer in Keibul Lamjao Floating National Park, describing them as identity, heritage, and pride of Manipur.
In a gesture of generosity, Joykumar donated several copies of Sangai literature to the school library.
L Biramangol elaborated on the significance of wildlife conservation, highlighting the Sangai deer and its second home at the Manipur Zoological Garden.
He announced that winners of the Sangai Spdt Quiz Competition would receive free entry to the Manipur Zoological Garden as a mark of honour and also donated informative hand-outs and publications to the school library.
A spot quiz competition was conducted with the participation of 95 students, and five winners were selected.
The winners will be formally awarded on Sangai Day, scheduled for December 10, 2025.The venue and date for the next Sangai Day celebration will be announced shortly, it said.
During the programme, all attendees took a pledge to support the conservation of Sangai deer, protect wildlife, and promote sustainable environmental practices.
