'Locality Day' observed

Lamboi Khongnangkhong Leikai in Imphal West district observed Locality Day on Friday on the theme 'Upal Thasi, Malem Kansi'.
The observance organised by Lamboi Khongnangkhong Senior Citizens Forum was attended by joint director (Environment & Climate Change) Neeta Arambam as chief guest, Forum chairman Chongtham Sur as president and Uripok Apunba Lup president Col (retired) Soram Tikendrajit Singh, Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup president Gurumayum Dayabati Devi and Poknapham daily editor Aribam Robindro Sharma as guests of honour.
In his speech, Aribam Robindro noted that Lamboi Khongnangkhong and its nearby areas like Lamphelpat, Langol hills and Lamdeng have undergone significant changes over the past 50/60 years.
In the said span, environment and lifestyles of the people of Lamboi Khongnangkhong and its nearby areas have also changed a lot, he observed, attributing the same to climate change.
"Climate change has emerged as a big issue for the global people and question often arises as to how long the humans will survive," he said and stressed the need for stopping deforestation and promoting forestation efforts.
While lauding Lamboi Khongnangkhong Senior Citizens Forum for initiating the significant forestation step, A Robindro called upon the people to plant trees to save mother Earth from destruction.
During the event, two most elderly locals, namely Yumnam Thambalmacha Devi and Moirangthem Landhoni Devi were honoured with simple gifts.
The Forum's best volunteer Moirangthem Itocha was also honoured with a gift at the event.
