Imphal, July 05 2025:
Representatives of Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA), Senapati District Truck Owners' Association (SDTOA) and Manipur Gorkha Motor Workers' Welfare Union (MGMWA) called on Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan on Friday and shared their grievances related to the challenges faced while transporting essential commodities.
They also highlighted issues such as poor road condition, the need for alternative by-pass routes, and other concerns.
Speaking to newspersons after the meeting, MDA secretary and North East Federation of Trade Union legal advisor Sanjay Kshetrimayum informed that MDA president Saikhom Babudhon, SDTOA president Sande Loli and spokesperson K Adani, and MGMWA president Anil Khawash submitted a memorandum to the Governor, apprising the latter that following the landslide on May 31 at Phesama, Nagaland, the associations joined hands to repair the bypass through Mao, Kidima and Chakabama, with machinery support from Mao MLA Losii Dikho.
He continued that the team urged for developing the bypass route to a state highway road.
He also informed that the Peren route has a lot of sharp turns in addition to villages along the route located far away from each other.
This, in turn, creates problems for drivers when vehicles break down.
As such, drivers have been avoiding the route, he conveyed.
In response, the Governor assured the delegation that the government would take necessary steps including urging the Ministry concerned to address the issues raised.
