IMC warns against trashing on roads

Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) has issued a public notice warning individuals and vendors against dumping construction and demolition waste, as well as construction materials on public roads without prior approval, citing it as a violation under the Manipur Municipalities Act, 1994.According to the notice issued by municipal commissioner K Chandrakumar, IMC has observed that various construction materials including stones, sand, and debris are being dumped on roads, obstructing public pathways and causing inconvenience to traffic and pedestrians.
The notice prohibits such obstruction of public roads without official approval from the IMC, emphasising that dumping construction and demolition waste in public areas not only constitutes a public nuisance but also poses a safety hazard for daily commuters.
The commissioner warned that violators will be penalised under Section 115(2) of the Act, including fine that may extend up to Rs 2,500 for first offence, with an additional Rs 500 for each subsequent violation following the first conviction.
IMC urged all individuals, construction agencies, and vendors to comply with the municipal regulations and obtain necessary permissions before placing any construction materials on public roads.
