Refresher training for para legal volunteers held

Under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) and National Legal Services Authority (NLSA), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Chandel, organised a one-day refresher training programme for Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) on Monday.
The programme held at the court complex of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Chandel, to enhance the skills and knowledge of PLVs manning Legal Aid Clinics and Special Legal Aid & Services Camps at relief camps was chaired by DLSA secretary Masana E Panmei, with advocate Ksh Sarankumari and DLSA retainer lawyer Kh Jacky Lucy as resource persons.
Masana Panmei highlighted the importance of Legal Aid Clinics and the role of Para Legal Volunteers in providing accessible legal services to the community.
She emphasised the need for continuous training and development to ensure that legal aid services are effective and reach those in need.
During the first session, Ksh Sarankumari provided an overview of the responsibilities and duties of a PLV.
She discussed the National Legal Services Authority (Free and Competent Legal Services Regulations, 2010) and explained regulations that guide the provision of free and competent legal services.
Additionally, she highlighted the Manipur Compensation Scheme for Women Victims/Survivors of Sexual Assault and other crimes, 2023, emphasising its significance in supporting victims of violence.
The second session focused on strategic discussions aimed at improving and enhancing the provision of legal aid through Legal Aid Clinics and Special Legal Aid and Services Camps.
Participants engaged in a dialogue on how to better serve the community and address the legal needs of those in relief camps and other vulnerable groups.
