Senapati, July 25 2025:
Food Safety Administration (FSA), Senapati organised an awareness programme on 'Food Fortification, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Hygiene Practices (GHP)' for ICDS workers including supervisors and Anganwadi workers at DRDA hall, here, on Friday.
During the awareness programme, FSA Senapati designated officer L Johnny, delivered a lecture explaining that fortified food is a mixture of vitamins and minerals to improve nutritional quality of food apart from providing public health benefit with minimal risk of health.
He said that it is mandatory for all food business operators to register themselves under Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) .
All Anganwadi workers are also required to register themselves free of cost through online for the food safety compliance system.
"This compulsion comes as the Anganwadi workers are also used to distribute food materials or prepared foods to children in their jurisdictions.
License for those who do not register themselves would be cancelled in near future," he cautioned, adding that majority of the 700 Anganwadi centres in Senapati district are yet to be registered.
Clarifying on rumours about plastic rice, Johnny said there is no plastic rice but fortified rice grains are mixed with rice supplied by the government.
He urged participants to spread this awareness to their villages and localities and further advised Anganwadi workers to demand fortified rice with blue margin +F, which means the product is fortified for sufficient nutrients.
"Children who consume such fortified foods will grow bigger, taller, more wise, fit and strong," he said.
The officer also mentioned that food safety administration will make surprise visits to all Anganwadi centres to check how they distribute prepared foods to the children.
