Bishnupur, July 22 2025:
Protesting the dilapidated condition of the Bishnupur-Mayang Imphal road (via Toubul), Toubul residents have threatened to launch intense protests, including digging the roadway, if the stretch is not repaired by August 30.The road stretch has not been repaired for the past 20 years, causing immense hardship to the people of Toubul and surrounding areas, affecting daily commuting, especially for students travelling to schools and colleges.
On Tuesday, members of Toubul Welfare Association, along with social worker Th Bir Singh, conducted an inspection of the road.
Speaking to reporters Bir Singh recalled that memorandums submitted to the local MLA, DC and SP of Bishnupur to take up the road repair works have not yet evoked any response from authorities concerned leaving the residents no choice but to resort to agitation.
He further informed that the road was last blacktopped in 2012 and again in 2017.However, due to the poor quality of the work, potholes began developing within a year.
Despite repeated attempts by the locals to fix the road themselves, the condition has only worsened overtime.
For the people of Toubul, this is the only accessible road to Bishnupur, and its present condition has severely disrupted daily life.
Bir also mentioned that an attempt was made to repair the road using funds from the Central Road Fund through the Public Works Department.
However, the proposal file was transferred to the Governor's office following the imposition of President's Rule in the state and is currently under review.
He appealed to the Governor to take prompt action and issue the necessary order for repairing the road at the earliest.
Toubul Welfare Association vice-president Kh Dharjit, who was also part of the inspection team, urged authorities concerned to take immediate steps to repair the road in keeping with the changing times.
He warned that if the repair work does not begin by August 30, the people will launch intense forms of agitation.
He also cautioned that any untoward incident arising from the issue will be the sole responsibility of the authorities concerned.
