RIMS gets new psychiatry ward

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, director professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma on Wednesday inaugurated the newly relocated Psychiatry Ward at the erstwhile Covid Ward near the Gymkhana.
In a release, RIMS PRO informed that the inauguration ceremony was also attended by RIMS Hospital medical superintendent professor N Sanjib Singh, along with deputy director (admn) RK Mecolt Singh, dean (academics) professor L Rajesh Singh, Department of Psychiatry HoD professor S Gojendra Singh and professor RK Lenin Singh.
In his address, the director expressed confidence that the new environment would greatly enhance patient healing and recovery.
He assured that further development of the site, including fencing, landscaping, and improved facilities, will be undertaken in the coming months.
The director also highlighted the remarkable contributions of the Department of Psychiatry to the people of Manipur, the North East, and the country, despite its limited faculty strength.
He announced that RIMS plans to expand postgraduate seats in psychiatry to meet the growing national demand for mental health professionals.
In addition, Prof Sunil revealed plans to establish the state's first Autism Clinic in collaboration with the state government, which will provide much-needed specialised services within the state.
The release further stated that the programme was attended by heads of departments, faculty members, nursing officials, and staff of RIMS .
