Imphal, July 13 2024:
All India Trade Union - Manipur State Committee (AITUC-MSC) has informed that all barber shops in Manipur, which had closed doors for two days owing to exorbitant monetary demands, will reopen from Sunday onwards.
In a statement released to the press, Committee secretary Kh Samungou said that the decision was taken after a meeting held at THAU ground, Thangmeiband on Saturday.
He expressed hope that the exorbitant demands will be lowered to a reasonable level, if not cancelled.
Meanwhile, speaking to media persons after the meeting, Samungou said that various armed outfits, in addition to those from outside the state, have been making excessive demand to poor barbers, putting the latter under immense pressure and difficulties.
He continued that AITUC stands for the poor and against the rich "bullying" the poor in the class struggle.
It is an organisation for the working class including farmers and labourers, which also covers the barbers.
As such, it is unfortunate that the barbers are being threatened to pay excessive demand or shut down shop.
This is more unfortunate when the prices of daily essential items are already high, she added.
Manipur Barbers' Association is affiliated to Trade Union Congress and as such, he urged all concerned to stop making excessive demands to the barbers.
