Workshop on foster care services held

A state level workshop on Foster care and After Care Services' was organised by Social Welfare Department at Sangai Hall of Hotel Imphal, North AOC here on Wednesday.
The workshop was attended by Social Welfare Department deputy director (child protection) Konsam Saroja, State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA) programme manager Gyanilaxmi Thongam and State Child Protection Society (SCPS) programme officer Sandhyarani Mangsatabam along with representative from various NGOs, Child Welfare Committee (CWC), District Child Protection Units (DCPU) and Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) .
In her speech, director Anna Arambam said that out if the 1953 children staying in various child care institutions (CCIs) in the state, the details of only eight children are uploaded on Mission Vatsalya (MV) portal, as detail records of the remaining children in foster care are not available.
As such, she stressed the need for CCIs to keep detailed records of the children.
She then said that CWC is non-institutional care and stressed the need for promoting non-institutional care support to internally displaced children.
In addition, the institutions need to provide monthly awareness to prospective families for adoption of children.
Furthermore, the children should be included in any decisions made in their interests, she maintained while highlighting the need for preventive measures against sexual exploitation of children in foster care and other dangers.
During the workshop, deputy director Konsam Saroja moderated a session, wherein Gyanilaxmi Thongam and Sandhyarani Mangsatabam spoke on the topics Model Foster Care Guideline, 2015' and 'Need for Identification of Beneficiaries for after care' respectively as resource persons.
