Imphal, May 24 2025:
Denouncing the blacktopping of a 10 km stretch from Top Khongnangmakhong to Top Khewa, which was done at a width of only 13 feet instead of the 17.9 feet specified in the DPR, the Top Youth Club (TYC) cautioned that it will launch a protest if the road is not blacktopped according to the DPR and the drainage on both sides is not repaired within 10 days.
Members of the club, along with media persons, inspected the road construction work on Saturday and found it to be in violation of the DPR.
Speaking to media persons, TYC advisor Thokchom Bomcha informed that the blacktopping work from Top Khongnangmakhong to the road leading to Top Khewa being done by Keystone Infra Pvt Ltd under the PWD.
He urged the MLA of Kshetrigao A/C and intending candidates of the upcoming election to look into the matter and announce their decision to the public within 10 days.
If they support the blacktopping work that violates the DPR, they will be socially boycotted, he warned.
The previous blacktopping of the road deteriorated within just two years.
People were initially delighted to hear that Keystone would handle the road reconstruction, but their hopes have now been completely dashed, he said, adding that the club had urged both the department and the company for a discussion about the road construction.
Moreover, the club could not find any authority to speak with during the construction, he alleged, reminding that a memorandum was also submitted to the Governor appealing to blacktop the road according to the DPR.
It is unfortunate that the PWD chief engineer commented as if the work is not related to the department.
Therefore, the chief engineer should clarify to the public whether the road construction work is being done under PWD or not, he demanded.
