Imphal, July 21 2025:
High Court of Manipur has directed that the result for selection of Registrar of Manipur University shall not be declared until the next date of hearing.
The order was passed by Justice Ahanthem Bimol Singh in WP(C) No 529 of 2025 with MC(WP(C))No 506 of 2025 filed by one Dr RK Joteen Singh.
According to the petition, the constitution of the Selection Committee/ Board was not as per the provision of the Manipur University Act, 2005, and as such, the selection process is illegal and vitiated.
The petitioner's counsel prayed for passing interim order directing the authorities not to declare the result of the said selection process.
The counsel appearing for Manipur University submitted that the earlier provision of the said Act has been subsequently amended and the assent of the President already obtained.
He further submitted that as per the amended provision, the Selection Committee of the Board has been constituted and there is no illegality.
In response, counsel for the petitioner submitted that the amended provision of the Manipur University Act, 2005 has not been notified in the Gazette as required under Section 46 of the Manipur University Act, 2005 and as such, the amended Act has not yet been enforced in terms of the Relevant provision of the Act.
The respondent's counsel sought one week's time to get instruction as to whether the amended provision of the Act has been notified in the Gazette or not.
The Court listed the case again on July 30, 2025 for consideration of the prayer for passing interim order.
In the meantime and till the next date of hearing, the respondents are directed not to declare the result of the said Selection for the post of Registrar of the Manipur University.
