Imphal, June 21 2024:
While opining that the on-going humanitarian crisis could be resolved through collective efforts of state and central governments along with the people of Manipur, Universal Mother's Organisation (UMO) has called for constructive discussions focused on solutions instead of indulging in blame games.
Addressing media persons at its Lamphelpat office, here, on Thursday, UMO president M Sorojini said there is no point in debating over whether or not the chief minister of Manipur was present at the high-level meeting chaired by Union Home minister Amit Shah in Delhi on June 19 as the chief minister might have not been invited considering the security situation of Manipur.
Regretting present trend of the people expressing and acting at one's discretion, she emphasised that all, including civil society organisations, should acknowledge Manipur's status as a part of India and abide by its Constitution.
She also opined that incongruent stand of Manipuri womenfolk regarding entry and exit of central forces, indicate sense of aimlessness while reminding that resolving the crisis merits engaging in constructive dialogue.
Further pointing out that Kukis' demand for a mini airport in Churachandpur underscore unity toward their shared objective, Sorojini also called upon the Meetei CSOs to unite and proceed to Delhi to put their demands to the national leaders.
Whether it's the newly elected MP Bimol Akoijam or chief minister N Biren, it would not be possible to put an end to the present crisis immediately.
We need to stop the habit of blaming the government, especially the chief minister, for every action taken by the Kukis, noting the Contentious nature of the Kukis' stance.
She also stressed the necessity of recognising that the current crisis is a result of longstanding mistakes and the importance of ceasing arbitrary actions and mutual blame.
Resolving the present crisis requires collaborative efforts from both the state and central governments, alongside the cooperation of the public, the president maintained.
