Delhi cops accused of harassing meira activist

Imphal, December 18 2024: Strongly condemning Delhi police's alleged harassment of its convenor Thokchom Sujata, Imagi Meira has demanded an explanation from Delhi police, while cautioning of launching intense agitation in case of failing to do so.

In a press meet held at Koubru Hall of Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, Imagi Meira co-convenor Maibam Somi recounted that on December 9, Sujata was on her way to the airport to participate in the Nupi Lal observance in Delhi when she briefly took part in the protests staged by missing supervisor, Kamalbabu's JAC.

However, the state police arrested her on false charges that she was planning to stage nude protest.

Sujata herself had no idea about the nude protest.

Later, after mass protest by womenfolk, Lamphel police released Sujata.

Somi further recalled that after her release, Sujata flew to Delhi to participate in the Nupi Lal observance but Delhi police put her under house arrest without providing any valid reason.

The Delhi police continued to harass Sujata by interfering in her personal life, which is highly condemnable.

As such, Somi demanded an explanation from Delhi police, adding that the convenor will not leave the national capital until the explanation is provided.
