IPFM seeks roadmaps to peace at Indigenous Day meet

Imphal, July 18 2025:
Indigenous People's Forum Manipur (IPFM), under the aegis of North East Indigenous People's Forum (NEIPF), will observe World Indigenous Day 2025 in Imphal on August 9.The observance will serve as a platform for indigenous communities from across the northeastern states to come together and discuss their rights, shared future, and the path toward restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur.
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club on Friday, IPFM president Ashang Kasar announced that the event will be held at the City Convention Centre under the theme "Defending Rights, Shaping Future" .
He said that representatives from indigenous communities of various northeastern states would be part of the gathering, which will focus on dialogue, solidarity and long-term solutions to the current unrest in the state.
He appealed to civil society organisations and different organisations to refrain from calling any bandh or blockade on August 9 in order to ensure that the observance takes place peacefully and inclusively.
He also urged all indigenous people of the state to attend the event and actively participate in the discussions.
The titular king of Tripura has been invited to attend the programme and confirmation of his participation is awaited, Ashang added.
