DC stresses education to curb substance abuse

Pherzawl, August 17 2025:
The district administration, in partnership with the District Child Protection Unit and the Social Welfare Department, conducted an awareness drive across Bukpi, Joutung, and Thanlon villages under the Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) .
Addressing the gathering at Bukpi, deputy commissioner Mannuamching emphasised that education is the strongest safeguard against substance abuse, describing it as the cornerstone of personal and community progress.
She urged parents to enrol every child in school, stating that denying education amounts to stripping children of their fundamental rights.
Pherzawl ADC/DSWO, Joel G Haokip, highlighted the devastating impact of addiction and its potential to damage future generations.
He also addressed critical issues regarding child rights, urging the community to work towards creating a drug-free society.
The campaign concluded with participants taking the NMBA pledge to inspire and strengthen the fight against drugs.
Also present at the event were N Thangzamuan, SDPO Thanlon; Khamminthang Tunglut, SDC Pherzawl; T Chingngaihlian, DPO (ICDS); district-level officers, village authority members, and villagers.
In another development, the District Health Society, Pherzawl, observed World Heart Day at Parbung village with a walkathon.
The chief guest of the event, Zosanglur Joute, SDO Tipaimukh, encouraged participants to adopt healthier lifestyles and avoid habits harmful to the heart.
