Civil defence mock drills held across districts

In sync with the directive of the Union Home Ministry and Directorate of Relief and Disaster Management, district level civil defence mock drills - Operation Abhyaas - were held in Jiribam, Senapati and Kamjong districts on Friday.
The Mock Drills simulated air raid warning sirens; public address announcement via police vehicles, fire engine sirens and emergency response activation, blackout, breakout of huge fire, search and rescue operations, casualty evacuation, setting up of temporary hospital for emergency medical response, evacuation of civilians to designated bunkers and civil defence training for civilians on safety measures during hostile attacks.
In Jiribam, Operation Abhyaas was conducted at Jiribam Higher Secondary School ground at 2 pm in the presence of deputy commissioner (DC) Krishna Kumar, SP Shaikh Mohd Zaib Zakir, SDO Laishram Tarajeet Singh, and other district level officers (DLOs).
The drill was organised under the supervision of the SP in co-ordination with CRPF, IRB, Fife Services and other relevant line departments.
Around 120 students from NCC/NSS and 250'volunteers also took part in the mock drill assisted by volunteers from NSS, Aaapda Mitras, Red Cross and public.
Similarly, Senapati district administration conducted Operation Abhyaas at the Mini Secretariat Complex.
The mock drill started at 10:30 am in the presence of DC Mamoni Doley, SP Dharmendra Kumar, ADC Rang David Kung, Senapati ADC chief executive officer Adahrii Maheo, DRDA project director PP Ronald, SDOs, DLOs, and commanders of CRPF B/T09 Bn, D/173 Bn and 16 F Company Assam Rifles.
The mock drill witnessed an active participation of around 500 individuals from police, CRPF units, AR, Medical Department, Manipur State Power Distribution Limited (MSPDCL), SDOs, DLOs, Indian Red Cross Society, Senapati volunteers, St Xavier College, Senapati NSS Unit, Mt Everest College, Senapati NCC Unit, NYK and TNK youths.
Meanwhile, the mock drill for Kamjong district was held at Kamjong Higher Secondary School from 10:30 am onwards in the presence of DC Rangnamei Rang Peter, SP Ningsem Vashum, 8 AR CO Sumit Acharya and BSF officer-in-charge Sanjay Beniwal.
Around 250 students took part in the mock drill assisted by 14 volunteers.
On the other hand, Thoubal DC Hannah Kamei announced that Civil Defence Mock Drill - 'Operation Abhyaas' will be held at Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School ground at 4 pm on Saturday.
Speaking to media persons, the DC informed that the drill will simulate air raid scenario/calamities and test emergency preparedness and response mechanisms, while appealing public not to panic and participate in the drill.
