Imphal, August 12 2025:
Alliance for Socialist Unity, Kangleipak (ASUK), the joint body of proscribed armed organisations namely Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) and Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), imposed total shutdown on August 15 as part of the boycott of India's Independence Day celebration.
The total shutdown will be effective across Manipur from 6am to 6pm of August 15 but exempt emergency services like fire, essential services like electricity and water supply, medical, education and religious ceremonies, ASUK informed in a statement.
According to the ASUK statement issued by publicity committee convener S Mangal, preparations are being made across all states of India including the capital New Delhi and Manipur for Independence Day celebration on August 15 but people consider Manipur's independence day on August 14 .
Continuing the statement, the ASUK said some section of people considered Manipur as a 'colony' of India from October 15, 1949 and claimed it as the primary reason for launching the freedom struggle with the establishment of armed/revolutionary organisations beginning from 1953 .
Revolutionary organisations, CSOs and individuals have in the past 72 years proven Manipur as a 'colony' of India with evidences and the present 'Kuki war' substantiate the claim to be undoubtedly true.
To be Contd .
