New committee to oversee Nungei Water Supply scheme

Thoubal, July 06 2025: In response to failure to ensure supply despite implementation of the Nungei Water Supply Scheme under Atoukhong Gram Panchayat in Lilong, a public meeting was held on Sunday at Kamalwalli Masjid compound, during which a committee for the water supply scheme was formed.

The meeting jointly organised by Ideal Youth Club and Social Upliftment and Educational Organisation, Nungei, was chaired by Turel Ahanbi Atoukhong GP Ward No 7 member L Ranjit.

Following a thorough discussion, the meeting resolved to form a new committee to ensure the Supply Scheme serve the purpose and sub mit relevant documents to authorities concerned for official recognition of the new committee.

Speaking to the media, Ideal Youth Club secretary Kh Abothoi informed that primary objective of the meeting was to ensure the proper functioning of the water supply scheme.

Representatives of local clubs, organisations, Atoukhong GP, administrative committee members and local residents were invited to contribute to a productive discussion.

He further noted that the previous water supply committee had been formed without public consent, and therefore, a new committee was constituted with the approval and participation of the local community.

A 10-member committee for the water supply scheme has now been formally constituted, he said.
