Make PwDs accessible to banking services: Commissioner

State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities has taken up Suo Motu Case (No.7 of 2025) concerning accessibility to banking services across the state.
A notification issued by State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities W Birahari Singh specified that in exercise of the statutory powers vested under Section 82 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, all banks operating in the state, presently non-compliant with the RBI/IBA accessibility norms, shall ensure that all banking services, including physical infrastructure and digital platforms, are made fully accessible to persons with disabilities without further delay.
In branches where physical accessibility remains a constraint, officials concerned should facilitate all essential banking services at the ground floor or any other barrier-free and accessible area within the premises, supported by requisite infrastructure and staff assistance, mentioned the notification.
Furthermore, Persons with Disabilities and senior citizens who face difficulties in accessing banking services, particularly due to inaccessibility of upper floors or non-compliance with the aforementioned directives, are encouraged to report such grievances to the office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Manipur through contact numbers: 8131947029, 8794563238, 7005615457 and 6009347127, the notification added.
