BM Foundation felicitates Benita Laishram

BM Foundation has felicitated folk singer Benita Laishram, who finished fourth in the Amrit Kalash, a reality show contest of folk songs, in a function held at the foundation's Mekola complex on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, BM Foundation chairman Dr S Manaoton hailed Benita for presenting the rich folk culture of the state at the national platform and stressed the need for more artistes like her to promote the indigenous art and culture to the global fraternity.
He also presented brief introduction of BM Foundation, a trust formed in the name of Biramangol Mekola, a popular music director in the Shumang Leela world, who apart from being a music director put his best efforts in promoting music, film and Shumang Leela as well as academic and educational promotion among the young children.
Confiding that BM Foundation is planning to set up an institute of culture, he further said that the felicitation function is a simple gesture to appreciate the contribution of Benita Laishram in promoting the art and culture of the state.
Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Sougrakpam Hemanta, BM Foundation executive member Okendro Khundongbam, Azad English School secretary Loitongbam Brajamohon, Bethel English School founder Konjengbam Tomba, and UNACCO School deputy general manager L Shyamchand also attended the function among others while young artistes of BM Foundation presented folk song renditions as part of the felicitation function.
