Imphal, May 27 2025:
The leadership of Noney (Longmai) has announced launch of a democratic agitation in June to protest the state government's alleged indifference to its demands.
In a joint meeting held Monday under the aegis of Longmai Pei (Customary) Court and Village Authority, the leaders expressed strong dissatisfaction with the state authorities' failure to respond to a formal representation submitted to the Governor of Manipur on May 3, 2025 .
The representation included a 15-point charter of demands and sought a reply within 10 days, but the government has still not provided an affirmative response, according to a press statement issued Tuesday by the Customary Court.
The statement deplored the state's indifferent attitude and what it described as 'unnecessary delay' in addressing public concerns, adding that the meeting resolved to initiate democratic protests, including a 'Chaka bandh' along National Highway 37, commencing from June 6 .
The agitation, it stated, would continue until 'the genuine demands are fulfilled' .
"We strongly urge the state authority to fulfil our genuine charter of demands without further delay," the statement read.
It also included an appeal to the wider public, particularly 'right-thinking individuals', to extend their solidarity and support to the proposed agitation.
