Imphal, September 22 2024:
Federation of Civil Society (FOCS), Manipur along with its allied 16 organisations condemned a viral video being circulated on social media platforms in an attempt to sow discord between the Meetei and Meitei-Pangal communities.
In a press meet held at the office of Manipur Women's Federation, Kakwa Boroimakhong on Sunday, FOCS general secretary Angom Punil Kumar recalled contributions of Meitei-Pangal community in the history of Manipur, including the Anglo-Manipuri War, 1891, arid even in the on-going conflict in the state.
As such, the circulation of the video amid the restive situation is not only uncalled for but seems to be part of the larger scheme of divisive intentions.
Thus, he urged the government to take appropriate action against the persons involved regardless of the community they belong to.
Punil then appealed to the Meitei-Pangal community not to take the video to the heart, adding that the historical bonds between the Meetei and Meitei-Pangal communities cannot be broken by such wicked tactics.
He further appealed to all to work together for a better future for Manipur.
Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) president Boboi Korimayum, who also attended the press meet, said that we should not put the love and bonds between the Meetei and Meitei-Pangal communities, under peril for an act perpetrated by some due to self-interests or influence.
He then urged against repeating such acts in the future and pay attention on the real enemy instead.
Boboi also urged authority concerned to investigate the matter, while urging the majority Meetei community to understand the sentiments of the minority Meitei Pangal community, while stressing that the bond between the two communities is inseparable.
