Students counselled, advised suitable career choice

Imphal, July 21 2025:
A one-day career counselling programme was organised by Model Career Centre (MCC) under the Directorate of Employment, at Ibotonsana Girls' Higher Secondary School on Monday.
The programme conducted under the initiative of National Career Service (NCS), aims to provide a one-stop solution for employment and career-related services to citizens across the country.
Speaking at the programme, Directorate of Employment additional director Thongam Sobash Singh emphasised the growing importance of career awareness and the need for structured guidance among contemporary youth.
He highlighted the objectives of NCS Scheme and MCC in empowering students and job seekers by facilitating access to employment opportunities, skill development programmes, and professional counselling services.

The additional director also encouraged everyone to take advantage of the Employment Exchange Card, informed the students about its benefits, and urged them to get registered.
He mentioned that there are 17 such facilities at Employment Exchange Complex in Imphal and 407 MCCs established across India.
Sobash further stressed the government's commitment to tackling unemployment by strengthening career outreach programmes, enhancing digital job-matching platforms, and aligning edu cation and skill development.
Th Bonbihari Singh, who attended as a resource person, elaborated on various career paths, preparation strategies, and support systems available through government initiatives.
During the session, he provided insights on essential tools for career planning - SWOT analysis; assessing one's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats and SMART goals; and underlining specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound methods which will facilitate the students for personal and academic growth.
He also encouraged students to identify their strengths and weaknesses as a step towards self-improvement and goal setting, stressing importance of the government initiatives in career planning and job facilities.
"These methods can help the students make better choices and plan their careers wisely based on their own abilities and situation," he maintained.
Ibotonsana Girls' Higher Secondary School principal M Kheroda Devi, teaching staff and numerous students attended the programme, which sensed as a Vital platform for bridging the gap between youth aspirations and career opportunities, reinforcing the government's commitment to promoting employment and guidance at the grassroots level.
Mention may be made that MCC Imphal West, established under the NCS Scheme, is among 407 such centres across India dedicated to empowering youth.
It plays a vital role in guiding job seekers by organising outreach programmes, career counselling sessions in educational institutions, and large-scale job fairs.
A remarkable example of its impact was the successful conduct of a Mega Job Fair on December 28, 2022, at Employment Exchange Complex, Lamphelpat.
