Interaction prog on climate change reporting held

Imphal, July 15 2025:
Media Resource Centre, Manipur in collaboration with State Climate Change Cell, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, organised one-day joint interaction on climate change reporting in Manipur at the conference hall of Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, at Porompat on Tuesday.
The objective of the workshop was to enhance capacity building of the media fraternity on climate change reporting and better understanding of climate facts through strengthening networks.

Through organising such programmes, the journalists are expected to promote environmental journalism and develop the capacity of media fraternity on climate change reporting, to disseminate host of climate evidence-based issues and information through various platforms of media and to bridge the gap between researchers, policy makers and practitioners on climate change.
The interaction programme provided an opportunity to learn and share good practices on climate change issues such as climate science, effective political advocacy, community-based adaptation as well as the roles of media in raising public awareness on climate communication and public access to information.
Speaking on the occasion, Directorate of Environment & Climate Change director Dr T Brajakumar Singh emphasised the need to review the reports submitted by the journalists who were awarded the fellowship by the Directorate.
The director mentioned that the fellowship was awarded to the journalist working in the state to bolster inclusive campaign for combating climate change.
He also explained that the basic idea of the joint interaction programme was to build the capacity of the media fellow recipients and intending applicants for fellowship on climate change reporting, especially journalists who are primarily working on different issues in the hill districts.
It also aims for better understanding of climate facts, reporting in simple common language and popularising people's science.
Fellows of the 6th State Level Media Fellowship programme made their presentations during the session.
Questions and answers followed by reflections from the experts, Media Resource Centre was taken up during the programme.
Senior journalists Irengbam Arun and Pradip Phanjoubam, Editors' Guild Manipur president Kh Khogen and environment activist Salam Rajesh also attended the programme.
Participants including awardees of 6th Media Fellowship Programme, Ukhrul District Working Journalists' Association members, Senapati district journalists, Tamenglong district journalists, All India Radio (AIR), Imphal, Lai Kaidong U team and expert members from Media Resource Centre took part in the programme.
Journalists from outlying districts attended the interaction programme via video conferencing.
