Imphal, August 11 2025:
The armed Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), Kangleipak has declared general strike on India's Independence Day on August 15 from 5am till 8 pm .
The general strike, however, will exempt those involved in medical services, religious ceremonies, fire service and media.
According to a SOREPA statement, Kangleipak/Manipur lost the 1891 war against the British and occupied by the latter, but regained freedom after the British left on August 14, 1947.Accordingly, Kangleipak/Manipur got freedom one day ahead of India and this is known to people across the globe.
Kangleipak/Manipur also had own constitution and democratic government ahead of India.
However, India annexed Kangleipak/Manipur after the then namesake king was forced to sign on merger agreement in Shillong on September 21, 1949, which came into effect from October 15 the same year.
Against this forcible merger, the people of Kangleipak/Manipur continue to fight for freedom till date, the SOREPA said.
