Bony Thongamcha conferred RK Sanatomba award

Former editor of Kangla Lanpung journal RK Sanatomba was fondly remembered on his death anniversary on Monday during which the annual RK Sanatomba Memorial Journalist Award-2025 was also conferred to Poknapham daily's assistant feature editor Bony Thongamcha (B-Tek).
The death anniversary of RK Sanatomba cum presentation of award instated in his name was held at Kombirei House, Hijagang, Palace compound.
The anniversary programme organised by RK Sanatomba Memorial Trust was attended by Sanatomba's mother Mangi Shija, A Brajakumar Sharma and senior journalist Leihaothabam Sarat as presidium members.
Regarding the ceremony, Trust chairman RK Nimai recalled that RK Sanatomba, who was very fond of journalism, lost his life in an unfortunate incident on June 30.After his demise, Sanatomba's friends and relatives collectively formed a trust and started presenting journalist's award in his name every year beginning from 2004.For the 24th edition of the award this year, editors and media houses nominated many good reporters for the award.
The Trust received total of five nominations for the award this year, with two from visual media and three from print media.
A jury team constituted for the award selected the journalist for the award eligible from field reporter to assistant editor, RK Nimai said adding that the jury recommended Poknapham daily's assistant feature editor Bony Thongamcha (B-Tek) for this year's award and accordingly conferred the same.
RK Sanatomba Memorial Journalist Award-2025 recipient Bony Thongamcha (B-Tek) had been filing reports and analysing Shumang Leela and Manipuri films for the past 15 years.
Bony Thongamcha hails from Elangkhangpokpi in Kakching district and is the eldest son of Thongam Kameshwar and Bino.
Before entering the field of journalism, science graduate Bony worked under theatre personality Ratan Thiyam and performed at different places across the world.
Apart from being a theatre artiste and director, Bony Thongamcha successfully completed film appreciation course at FTII, Pune.
The award he received include citation, scarf and cash prize of Rs 25,000 .
In the first session of the ceremony, the gathering paid rich floral tributes to the portrait of RK Sanatomba and honoured the late journalist while social activist and former editor of Kangla Lanpung Ningthouja Lancha talked about changes RK Sanatomba had wanted in the field of journalism in the state.
Later, the first issue of the 16th volume of Kangla Lanpung was released and article contributors of the issue were honoured.
