Ex-MP Behring no more

Imphal, June 27 2025:
Bd Behring, a former Member of Parliament (Outer Manipur) and former member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly elected from Chandel assembly constituency, passed away on Friday in New Delhi after prolonged illness.
Bd Behring, who had contested in the Lok Sabha election from Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in 2019, was born in 1953 at Thorcham village in present day Chakpikarong sub division of Chandel district.
Prior to joining politics, Behring, an MA Political Science degree holder, was associated with various student and civil organisations including president of Anal Naga Students' Union, general secretary of All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur, founder & president of JNU Tribal Students' Union, general secretary of United Naga Council, etc.
He had also worked ceaselessly for communal harmony and peaceful co-existence among the communities.
Notably, on December 23, 2005, Bd Behring, along with MLAs Samuel Zendai (Federal Party/Tamenglong), Henry Paotei (Federal Party/Karong), Danny Shaiza (BJP/Ukhrul and Wungnaoshang Keishing (Independent/Phungyar, resigned from the Manipur State Assembly to support the ongoing Indo-Naga Peace Process.
Meanwhile, Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM), General Headquarters, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Bd Behring, who the Council remembered as a prominent tribal leader who served the people of Manipur with steadfast commitment and dedication.
"His contributions to the uplift and welfare of the tribal communities and the state of Manipur will always be remembered with profound respect and gratitude.
His passing is an irreparable loss, and the void he leaves behind will never be filled," TYCM said in a release on Friday.
The Council acknowledged Behring's longstanding association with the TYCM, noting his "valuable suggestions and thoughts" over the years.
The TYCM extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones, joining the people of Manipur in mourning the loss of a visionary leader.
The Council prayed for his soul to rest in eternal peace.
According to family sources, the mortal remains of Bd Behring would be brought from Delhi to Imphal Airport around 1.30 pm on Saturday.
