Meet discusses resettlement of IDPs

A meeting was held at the Old Age Home, Kakching Wairi Panjao Pallum relief camp on Thursday between internally displaced persons (IDPs) staying the Old Age Home, Kha Manipur College SC/ST Girls Hostel and Kakching Wairi Kongoi, and Kakching deputy commissioner (DC) Rohit Anand and senior SP Thokchom Vikramjitto discuss return of IDPs to their respective homes.
The meeting jointly organised by the district administration and relief camp committees of the district was also attended by Senior Citizens" Forum, Kakching president ex-minister N Nimai and Peace Committee, Kakching vice chairman Yengkhom Nilachandra.
Speaking at the meeting, DC Rohit Anand informed that the district administration has completed survey for around 484 houses in the district which were burned or damaged in the ongoing conflict.
Assuring that the government will extend financial assistance to reconstruct houses of IDPs, who want to return back to their home, he said that Rs 5 lakh will be provided for kutcha house, Rs 7 lakh for semi-pukka and Rs 10 lakh for pukka house.
The DC continued that to avail the assistance IDPs shall have to submit application to his office enclosed with copy of "Patta", Aadhaar, bank account details and other related documents.
People who do not possess "Patta" under their name may also apply with relevant details within July 31, he informed and advised all concerned facing issues in filling up the application to consult with the relief camp committee concerned.
Rohit also mentioned that IDPs from other districts can also submit their applications for forwarding to the DCs concerned and assured the IDPs that the government will take up measures to provide them income generation avenues along with ensuring schools and health centres in Serou and Sugnu area are fully functional.
On the other hand, SP Vikramjit said that the district police have beefed up security in Serou, Sugnu and Pallel areas and deployed adequate police personnel, commando, IRB, MR and BSF.
Hence, Serou and Sugnu villagers should have no fear in returning back to their respective villages.
If anyone has any misgivings they can contact him, and the district police will take up necessary action.
In case the matter is not addressable by them, then higher-ups would be consulted for the needful, the SP assured.
