National Lok Adalat recovers ₹1.47 cr in settlement

Imphal, September 22 2024:
Under the directive of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) and District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) jointly conducted the National Lok Adalat for Imphal East and Imphal West districts at Lamphelpat Court Complex on Sunday.
A total of 3023 cases including pending pre-litigation cases, bank loan, electricity & water bills, motor accident claims, matrimonial disputes, revenue cases & criminal compoundable offences were listed, of which 133 were taken up for hearing.
Of these 125 cases were settled and a total of Rs 1,47,27,307 recovered in settlement.
Three benches chaired by Revenue Tribunal presiding officer N Lanleima; ND&PS and Family Court, Manipur Judge Binny Ngangom; and District and Sessions Judge, Imphal West Yumkham Rother heard and disposed the cases.
In this regard, High Court of Manipur judge Justice A Guneshwor Sharma, who oversaw the proceedings, said that the cases disposed in Lok Adalat is final and cannot be appealed either in the Supreme Court or High Courts.
He continued that Lok Adalats are held four times a year to clear pending cases in the courts, without the parties having to incur unnecessary costs or time.
For this year, the final Lok Adalat will be held in December, he informed, and urged all not to miss the opportunity.
