MMWO hosts memorial function of Kayamuddin

Imphal, July 13 2025:
Manipur Meitei-Pangal Welfare Association MMWO) organised its 4th Kayamuddin Pukhrimayum memorial function at Manipur Press Club, here, on Sunday.
The event was marked by competition on patriotic poem recitation and paying tribute to the Manipuri Meitei Pangal (Muslim) writers of the state.
As chief guest of the function, Sahitya Akademi awardee BM Maisnamba spoke on the life and works of the late writer Kayamuddin.
Delivering the presidential speech of the function, MMWO president MA Che-saba said the event was organised with the primary objective of encouraging young writers to contribute more literary works that foster love, peace and development among the various communities living in the state.

He highlighted the role of writers in creating an atmosphere where all communities can coexist harmoniously.
He further stated that the state, currently in the grip of a prolonged crisis, appears to be like one without leadership or direction.
At this critical juncture, both the state and central governments must take immediate steps to facilitate the safe return of IDPs to their homes.
Authorities should also take necessary measures to prevent future conflicts and ensure long-term development and stability, he added.
The function was also attended by Writers' Union former president and writer Ajrul Kabir, Sahitya Akademi Awardee (Translation) MM Ahamed, Manipuri Sahitiya Parishad Literary Award 2025 and Akashvani Award-2000 recipient Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh, FOCS president BM Yaima, Horticulture AO (retired) Islauddin and USMDC-keirao AC president and MMWO chief advisor Hasimuddin Moinammayum as guests of honour.
