Imphal, July 13 2024:
While expressing resentment over the decision taken by the state cabinet on Friday for allowing transfer of Village Defense Force (VDF) personnel beyond their respective district, All Manipur VDF Employees' Welfare Association (AMVDFWA) has cautioned of launching intense protest if the government failed to increase their salary within July 30.Speaking to media persons in this regard at Manipur Press Club, here, on Saturday, AMVDFWA president Laishram Deban said that it is not the case of VDF not wanting transfer, but the monthly salary of the VDF is only Rs 10,000 .
They will spend all their salary in transportation alone if they were transferred to Jiribam.
VDF will gladly accept the transfer if their salary is increased similar to the pay of MR, IRB and police, he said.
Deban further stated that VDF has been performing their duties since the May 3 incident.
Moreover, 70 per cent of the personnel pressed 1 to the service of destroying poppy cultivation are VDF.
So, the work being done by VDF does not commensurate with the salary being paid.
Demanding the government to issue an order for increasing the salary of VDF within June 30, he cautioned that 10,050 VDF personnel are well prepared for launching intense protest.
