Imphal, July 10 2025:
Protesting prolonged neglect of the roads within Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) campus, students of the varsity on Thursday planted paddy on the potholed riddled arterial roads and also closed off the southern gate of the University.
Speaking on the sidelines of the symbolic protest, DMU Mathematics Department class representative Oinam Keba informed that the on-going bridge/culvert construction near the Khoyathong traffic point, has led to roads within the university heavily used as an alternative route turning the campus into a highway.
"With the increased traffic within the varsity, there has been a rise in vehicle thefts and accident cases, prompting students to close the gate of the varsity to prevent any further trouble," he explained.
According to Keba, due to prolonged negligence, the roads within the varsity have become impassable during rainfall.
However, no step has been taken up till date to repair the roads.
Accordingly, the students decided to sow paddy saplings on the water-filled roads to protest the inaction, he conveyed.
The students also raised concern over the unchecked growth of shrubbery and weeds inside the varsity.
They urged the Governor and authorities concerned to undertake necessary repairs of the roadways to alleviate their hardships at the earliest, cautioning that failure to fulfil the same would prompt the students to launch intense agitations.
