Imphal, July 31 2025:
Anal Naga Tangpi (ANTA)/Anal Naga Union has opposed clustering of important courses available at United College (UC), Lam-bung to South East Manipur College (SEMCO) Komlathabi, both in Chandel district, and other institutions.
In a release, ANTA president PS Monihring and general secretary TS Larni noted that location of United College at Lambung within the district headquarters has been favourable and accessible to many.
Subsequent to enlistment of Chandel an 'Aspirational District', the central government aims development of the district from all aspects, including the education sector, pointed out the ANTA, adding as disheartening that an order of the Directorate of University & Higher Education, dated July 30, posited the UC, in a lowest category, keeping only one subject (Political Science) for Honours with Research Course and four subjects (English, Physics, Education and Zoology) as Honours course, whereas different departments are clustered with other colleges or institutions, amounting to biggest negligence and showing disrespect to the people of Chandel.
ANTA said Chandel still remains one of the most backward districts in the state in all sectors.
The general population in the district is economically weak, and it is difficult for them to pursue further studies by travelling to far distances.
Ignoring the reality and dropping important studies will create serious problems and decrease percentage of student enrolment in pursuing higher education, it continued.
ANTA also claimed that the government has been randomly transferring and posting faculties from UC to other institutions without their replacement.
"Therefore, we consider that it is long time strategic attempt to degrade the UC, Lambung to lowest level.
Hence, we urge the Directorate of University & Higher Education to rectify the order issued on Wednesday, in the interest of the district's denizens," it stressed.
ANTTA also specified that the Directorate's order approved opening of 4th Year Under-Graduate programmes under NEP-2020 in the government colleges of Manipur and mentioned that opening of courses in colleges will be subject to verification and approval of the competent authority of Manipur University.
