Prof Jayanta honoured with RIST award

Imphal, July 25 2025:
Executive Council of the Research Institute of Science and Technology (RIST) and Manipur Mathematical Society presented the "RIST Distinguished Scientist Award 2025" to Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Sheffield, United Kingdom (UK), Prof Jayanta Manoharmayum.
The award carries citation, memento, honorary stole and cash prize.
The award ceremony held at the Physics Department of Manipur University on Friday, was attended by DMU former vice chancellor Prof N Rajmohon as chief guest and RIST, Imphal director Prof N Nimai Singh as president while DM College of Science Department of Mathematics retired Prof H Jayantakumar and MU Department of Physics head Prof A Dilipkumar Singh were guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Rajmohon highlighted that the Manipur Association for Promotion of Science has been working to promote science in the state, and acknowledged efforts and contributions of People Science Network Publication.
Reflecting on the enormous talents among youth of the northeast region, he also stressed the need for proper guidance and instilling scientific spirit amongst the young generation.
The RIST Award was newly established to recognise exceptional scientists and mathematicians of Manipuri origin working domestically and abroad.
The award aims to celebrate outstanding research contributions in science and mathematics while inspiring the state's youth to pursue scientific excellence.
Prof Jayanta is the son of late Manoharmayum Brajamani Sharma and late Manoharmayum Ruhini Devi of Kwakeithel Moirang Purel Leikai Imphal.
He is being is honoured for his ground-breaking work in Number Theory.
