Senapati, February 24 2025:
Senapati District Women Association (SDWA) expressed deep concern over an unfortunate incident in the early hours of February 22 in Senapati district, wherein officials of Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) intercepted the Assam Rifles and Kuki militants bound by suspension of operation (SoO) agreement working in close collaboration in the heart of the district.
The SDWA strongly condemned such act by the Assam Rifles as it threatens peace and stability in the district.
The women's group stated that such unjustified movement of SoO militant leaders under full security cover provided by the Assam Rifles raises serious concerns and disrupts the peaceful environment of the land.
The SDWA also pledged to extend full support to the SDSA in the pursuit of peace, justice and transparency.
As representatives of the people, it urged authorities concerned to clarify the reason behind escorting armed groups in Naga areas and to ensure that the peace and neutrality of the land are upheld.
On the other hand, Poumai Naotumai Me (PNM) condemned Assam Rifles' unwarranted escorting of armed groups in the district.
The Poumai Naga Women's Union (PNM) expressed that the Assam Rifles escorting armed Kuki militants under the cover of darkness raises serious concerns about the safety and security of the people and questioned the real motive behind such actions.
Senapati has remained a peaceful district despite the ongoing turmoil in Manipur.
However, such actions by the Assam Rifles have created mistrust, fear and unnecessary tension among the communities, PNM said, adding that as the Nagas have maintained a neutral stand they will not tolerate any attempt to drag the people into conflict between the Kukis and Meiteis.
PNM also conveyed solidarity to the SDSA on the issue and urged the Assam Rifles and the Government to act responsibly and focus on restoring peace rather than creating more tensions.
