Poetry compendium 'There Are People' released

Imphal, August 17 2025:
'There Are People', a new collection of poems by Aasif Shah, who is presently deputy registrar of the High Court of Manipur, was released on Sunday at the Centre for Meitei-Pangal Cultural Studies Manipur, Mantripukhri Friends Colony, Imphal East.
The book, published by OrangeBooks Publication, Chhattisgarh, was unveiled in the presence of prominent literary and academic figures.
The ceremony was attended by Dr Moirangthem Priyobarta Singh, eminent writer, critic, poet and retired principal of Imphal College, as the chief guest, Dr N Nimai Singh, retired professor of Physics at Manipur.
University and director of the Research Institute of Science and Technology (RIST), Imphal, as the guest of honour, and Md Abul Kalam, retired deputy director of Manipur Archives and president of EMBRACE, as the functional president, while Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh, recipient of the prestigious Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Literary Award 2025, reviewed the book.
In his address, Dr Priyobarta described the launch as a "national-level function", stressing the wider reach of the book owing to its English medium and its publication by a national publishing house based outside Manipur.
He encouraged Manipuri poets to write in multiple languages in order to connect with readers across India, observing that Seawaves remains the only major organisation in the state actively publishing poetry in English.
He further urged young writers to embrace multilingualism to amplify their voices on the national stage.
