Tengnoupal, May 17 2026:
Demonstrating its commitment towards the welfare of border communities, the Assam Rifles provided swift medical assistance to an injured farmer in Tengnoupal district.
According to a release issued by IGAR (South), the incident occurred on May 15 when 56-year-old Angom Kumar of Kwatha village sustained severe facial and periorbital lacerations after being struck by a sharp bamboo splinter while engaged in agricultural work.
Responding promptly to the emergency, the medical team of Assam Rifles administered immediate first aid to control the bleeding before carrying out a specialised ophthalmic procedure under sterile conditions and local anaesthesia.
The medical team successfully sutured the delicate upper and lower eyelid injuries while ensuring that the eye globe remained intact without any loss of vision.
The procedure also ensured minimal facial scarring, restoring both functionality and appearance.
Following treatment, the injured farmer was stabilised, provided with necessary medications and discharged with a proper follow-up plan.
The release stated that the timely humanitarian intervention reflects the force's continued efforts to extend essential healthcare services to remote border areas where specialised medical facilities are often limited.
The initiative was reportedly appreciated by local residents and further strengthened civil-military cooperation in the region.
