Imphal, June 15 2025:
Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam laid the foundation stone for the Blind Boys' Hostel of the Welfare Association for the Blind, Manipur, along the SAI Road, Takyelpat on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Bimol stated that the construction of the hostel will be taken up with funds from the MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) Fund, already approved by both the District Development Committee and the Central Development Committee.
Expressing satisfaction over the digital training programme supported by the Welfare Association for the Blind, the MP said such initiatives should not be limited to the state alone but extended to neighbouring states as well.
He stressed the importance of such training, noting that visually impaired individuals are now capable of tasks such as film editing.
"We must work towards creating an inclusive society that does not discriminate against persons with disabilities.
I have encountered many exceptionally talented visually challenged individuals.
They should be treated on par with others," he remarked.
As part of the event, the 16th Laishram Gouramani Memorial Award was presented to Dr Keisham Premananda in recognition of his contributions.
