Senapati, August 14 2025:
The Laii Circle Union Villages conducted a mass social service on August 13 to repair and maintain the roads connecting their villages.
Over 1,500 villagers voluntarily participated in clearing roadside grass and filling potholes along a 21-kilometre stretch from Vaisiichu NH-102A (the under-construction Tadubi-Ukhrul Tolloi Road) to Laii, New Laii, and Laii Shirafii, as well as a 3-kilometre stretch from Vaisiichu to Katafiimai.
This initiative was led by the Laii Circle Union president, AT Thaizii, who expressed frustration over the government's lack of attention to their repeated requests for road repairs.
The villagers took matters into their own hands to ensure their safety, given the hazardous condition of the road.
The president stated that despite the TT Laii to Kharasom Ukhrul road being one of the oldest state highways in Manipur, it has been neglected for years.
The Laii Circle Union Villages' participation in the mass social service demonstrated their commitment to improving their community.
This was not the first time the villagers had taken such initiative as they carry out similar efforts annually to repair dilapidated inter-village roads.
Despite the villagers' efforts and repeated appeals, the government has not provided any support for road maintenance.
The Laii Circle Union has expressed disappointment and frustration over the lack of attention from government authorities.
The Union's efforts to maintain the Tadubi-Tungjoy-Laii to Kharasom Ukhrul road - a vital lifeline for the villages - highlight the urgent need for government support to ensure long-term sustainability.
The Laii Circle Union expressed gratitude to all those who financially, materially, and physically supported the repair of the dilapidated road, which serves as the lifeline for the Laii Circle villages.
