Imphal, February 14 2026:
Members of the Mayai Lambi Apunba Lup (MALAL), led by president Chingubam Niladhaja, conducted an on-site inspection today of the ongoing construction on National Highway 137A, popularly known as Mayai Lambi.
The team closely examined the condition and quality of the road construction project, which was officially flagged off by Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand on February 9 at Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai Panthoibi Lampak.
Sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the initiative seeks to strengthen and widen the stretch from Wahengbam Leikai to Kakching, covering markers from 0.00 km to 15.35 km and 30.00 km.
MALAL has long championed improvements to this vital route, staging multiple bandhs, general strikes, and even a six-day road blockade to compel authorities to act.
During the inspection, the group appealed to officials to prioritize widening key market areas along the highway, including Langthabal Keithel, Pishum Keithel, and Keishamthong Keithel- to enhance safety and ease
traffic congestion.
