Statue of slain soldier unveiled

A statue of martyr MR Rifleman Heisnam Jiten, killed by Kuki militants in May 2023, was unveiled at Loktak Lairembi Lampak today.
The memorial statue was unveiled by Thanga AC MLA Tongbram Robindro during a programme organised by Thanga Heisnam Chingkha Club and All Thanga Apunba Meira Paibi.
The MLA and the people gathered at the event including family members paid floral tributes at the statue.
Heisnam Jiten (37) was a Rifleman of the 5th Manipur Rifles, attached to Bishnupur Commando.
A resident of Thanga Heisnam Leikai, he was part of a reinforcement team that was rushed to Tronglaobi Makha Leikai Chingkhong, under Bishnupur district on May 11, 2023 after Kuki militants launched a fierce attack in the area.
In the exchange of fire, Heisnam Jiten and four other personnel sustained injuries.
He succumbed on his way to a hospital.
Heisnam Jiten is survived by his wife, Heisnam ongbi Ranjita Devi and their two children, Heisnam Jetli Singh and Heisnam Lanchenbi Devi.
Unveiling the statue, MLA T Robindro said Heisnam Jiten made the supreme sacrifice protecting the lives of the people and the State's integrity.
His sacrifice will be remembered and it will inspire the younger generations to serve and protect the motherland, said the MLA, encouraging people to collectively safeguard what he died for.
All Thanga Apunba Meira Paibi co-convenor Salam Leinungshi Leima, ex Pradhan Oinam Romen and many other local
leaders attended the event.
